PEER PROFILE:
CEO & FOUNDER OF FLOATING DOCTORS
PRONOUNS: he/him/his
Hi, I’m Dr. Benjamin LaBrot. I’m a native of Southern California with a long association with the ocean having worked on commercial fishing and research vessels and spent countless hours on or under the water off the coast of Southern California. I attended the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and worked as a medical doctor in the Irish health Care System. Travel and private medical mission work in developing countries led me to combine my love of the sea and medicine to bring more help to remote rural communities. I founded the Floating Doctors in 2009. In 2010, I led the first Floating Doctors mission to Haiti and has been continuing ever since. Floating Doctors and our crew of dedicated volunteers is a promise I made that I would come back to the developing world with more help. Dr. Ben La Brot is also a clinical professor teaching Palliative Care, Malaria, and International Aid Work at USC Keck School of Medicine, and also a Research Faculty Supervisor at the University of California, Irvine Medical School.
